Teton looked at me and howled. Foam collected on his lips and his eyes had a wolfish look. I wonder if he has Spring fever the way I do. I'm glad the ground has finally thawed and I'm willing to tolerate a little rain for a month or so before getting my bike again. A sprinkling of new shoots of grass beneath the fields hinted that Winter would soon be over.
I'm seeing more birds now. Last night I saw a pair of snowy white owls perched on a tree but didn't have my camera. The woodland birds are picking out their trees and singing for mates. A pair of ducks looked for nesting spaces that would be safe for their young. Teton let them know that a this puddle was probably not the best choice.
I was elated to catch the action shot of the ducks. We walk through these fields every day and I need to see something extraordinary to want a picture. I had just finished wiping raindrops off the lens when I saw the Blue Heron on the tree. I shot this photo, a few more of him in flight, and several in another tree. The second tree had bad light. You can see how impressive he was from this shot. Makes me wish I had a telephoto. I seldom see heron in this park and this one seemed like he was scanning the horizon. I wonder if he was looking for a mate.
Not even a minute after seeing the Heron I looked across the field and Teton was hot on the tails of a herd of deer. It must have been an unbelievable day for him. I took a few shots but they were moving so fast that I couldn't get a good angle. I had the brief fantasy of being a wolf in a pack and joining him so we could cut out a slow one and have venison for breakfast.
About twenty minutes later Teton returned with a bloody muzzle. I suspect he ran through brambles with his tongue hanging out. If he had killed a deer, I doubt he would have left the carcass. I'll find out tomorrow because if there is a carcass he will be happy to show me. Maybe I'll get that venison breakfast.
Ah, the good life. I don't worry much about filling his water bowl. He hates city water. Too bad Teton - it looks like you'll be banished to the porch this morning.
